Make and Do Assignment – Post 4

So after more research for my make and do, City Lights, I have changed a few aspects of it. I have replaced some of the materials with stronger or easier materials to use. For example, instead of a metallic sheet and 2 art boards for the base I am using a magnetic white board which will work the same. Also I have decided to use Perspex instead of tracing paper for the cubes. This is far better as it is a lot stronger and I will not need the foam board to keep the cubes shape.

I have decided that due to the time left before the project being due that instead of a mini microphone I will just use a 3.5mm Jack to connect the music device straight to the product.  This will have the same effect.

To be able to create the LED’s interacting with the sound each cube will have 3 LED’s, this eliminates having to have a transistor for each cube.

So far I have the following components already sourced:

  • 10 LEDs (Various Colours)
  • 10 330 -ohm resistors
  • 20 x Very Strong Square Block Neodymium Magnets 5mm x 5mm x1mm (Arrived)
  • 1 roll of Copper Tape
  • Double Sided Tape
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • The use of a Soldering Iron
  • Perspex (Instead of tracing paper for the cubes)
  • 3.5mm Jack extension
  • 1 9v battery connector
