8bit time – Low resolution, GUI icon design for a wristwatch – Post 1

In Multimedia Human Computer Interaction we have been given the task to design low resolution, GUI icon design for a wristwatch in 8bit time. It does not have to be interactive, it is purely a GUI prototype.

The watch display is 60px × 60px which we have to create a background image for. There are three buttons below the disply left, select and right. There are 4 icons that need to be designed 40px × 40px :

– An icon that represents you (for preferences)
– Fitness Tracker Mode
– Mp3 player mode
– Drum mode (the watch is also a drum machine)

There needs to be two versions of each of these one to display that the option has been selected and the other to display the opposite.

Also only 8 colours are allowed to be used for the background and a separate 8 colours for the icons.

I’m looking forward to this assignment and I will upload further developments as I go along.
